Investment Management Process
Becoming A Client:
Changing financial advisors, or working with one for the first time, can be daunting. People have different values and needs. It is important to determine whether you and Bristlecone are a good match. Our approach with prospective clients is based on a 3-step process: |
 |
Introductory Meeting
After you contact us, we set up an initial meeting with one of our principals in order to:
- Examine your current situation
- Discuss your goals and how we can help you reach them
We ask questions about your finances and we’ll request that you bring your statements and tax returns. Our goal is to understand your situation and values in order to create an investment plan that will help you reach your financial objectives. |
 |
Presentation and Recommendations –
Your Investment Policy Statement (IPS)
A couple of weeks later, we meet with you again to present our review of your situation and our recommendations. Your IPS is a road map for our work together, and lays out:
- Your investment goals and values
- Your time horizon(s)
- Your risk tolerance
- Special considerations relevant to your portfolio
At the end, we want you to take these documents home and think things through
for a few days. |
 |
Discussion and Questions
About a week later, we follow up with one last meeting to discuss whether we are ready to make a mutual decision. Issues addressed include:
- Can Bristlecone add substantial value to your situation?
- How much will the fees amount to?
When you are ready to proceed, we execute and sign all the documents necessary to put your investment plan in motion. |
Your Ongoing Partnership With Bristlecone
Now that you are a client, we will meet at least twice a year to:
- Review progress towards your goals
- Keep your investment plan on track
- Review investment returns
- Address any changes to your situation
- Make necessary adjustments
